Job Description

Sous Chef responsibilities include supervising the food prep and cooking, maintaining a fully-stocked kitchen inventory and complying with safety and cleanliness standards. To be successful in this role, you should be able to manage our kitchen staff and guide them to deliver quality food on time.

Ultimately, you will ensure all plates are properly cooked and served and our customers have a pleasant dining experience.

Responsibilities

Sous Chef Responsibilities:

  1. Manage kitchen staff and coordinate food orders
  2. Supervise food prep and cooking
  3. Check food plating and temperature
  4. Establish portion sizes
  5. Schedule kitchen staff shifts
  6. Interviewing, selecting, and training employees
  7. Disciplining employees
  8. Price menu items in collaboration with the Restaurant Manager
  9. Order food supplies and kitchen equipment, as needed
  10. Train kitchen staff on prep work and food plating techniques
  11. Store food products in compliance with safety practices (e.g. in refrigerators)
  12. Keep weekly and monthly cost reports
  13. Maintain sanitation and safety standards in the kitchen area

Requirements Include:

  1. Proven work experience as a Kitchen Manager, Restaurant Manager, or Chef 
  2. Hands-on experience with planning menus and ordering ingredients
  3. Knowledge of a wide range of recipes
  4. Familiarity with kitchen sanitation and safety regulations
  5. Excellent organizational skills
  6. Conflict management abilities
  7. Ability to manage a team in a fast-paced work environment
  8. Flexibility to work during evenings and weekends
  9. Certification from a culinary school or degree in Restaurant Management is a plus
